I was barely sitting down when I heard a voice from the other stall saying: "Hi, how are you?"
I'm not the type to start a conversation in the restroom but I don't know what got into me, so I answered, somewhat embarrassed, "Doin' just fine!"
And the other person says: "So what are you up to?"
What kind of question is that? At that point, I'm thinking this is too bizarre so I say:
"Uhhh, I'm like you, just traveling!"
At this point I am just trying to get out as fast as I can when I hear another question.
"Can I come over?"
Ok, this question is just too weird for me but I figured I could just be polite and end the conversation. I tell him, "No.......I'm a little busy right now!!!"
Then I hear the person say nervously...
"Listen, I'll have to call you back. There's an idiot in the other stall who keeps answering all my questions."
(Ha..ha..ha! Soo....this is just a joke I came across....but, the funny thing is that it really has actually happened to me before!!....except I didn't carry on a full conversation....luckily!!! The other thing I can't get use to is the blue-tooth, phone in the ear thing. It constantly throws me for a loop when I'm in the grocery store or walking somewhere...ARGH!!!)
Christmas Day.....Hip-Hip-Hurray!!!
So, I know that there are a lot of advertisements connected with these slide shows.....but....I like the slideshow feature....and yes, I am too cheap to buy it without the advertisements! With all the pictures that tell the story, this just fit better. We had a FANTASTIC day!! It even snowed a little for us....which was my Christmas wish! A little story behind the Wii....yes....we stood in line. We got up super duper early the day after Thanksgiving and Bob stood in the dark under an awning for an obscure store called Game Stop. He waited and waited and thought for sure they would only have 1 or 2 in the store....it was a tiny store. When they finally came out to pass out tickets....Bob's heart started racing....the man got closer.....could it be???.....closer....ohhhh the anticipation as the guy in front of him got a ticket....YES!!!!...the guy was handing him a ticket. It turned out he was number 29 of the 33 tickets handed out. Now...there was still an hour before the store opened....DON'T LOSE THE TICKET!! Our ENTIRE day and Christmas season was made. We hooted and hooted all the way home! Finally Christmas morning came and we could play. It is a BLAST!! The graphics definitely aren't as good as our x-box 360....but ohhh....so fantastically fun for our family!!Thank you Santa!!

How do I even begin to describe the love I have for these guys??....I can't even begin without crying...I know, I know....I'm so sappy!! Amanda and Bob are singing in the choir today for church. Unfortunately I am sitting home because of a freindly case of bronchitis....(It makes sure to re-aquaint itself every year...couldn't ask for a better friend!)....so, poor Nathan will be sitting by himself. I'm kind of bummed. But, just seeing these three get all dressed up and loaded in the car with their scriptures in hand and smiles on their faces makes me so happy! I just want to SQUEEZE, SQUEEZE, SQUEEZE them all the time!! They're so dang CUTE!!
It's recital time!
Here are a few "posed" shots of the kids AFTER their piano recital. :) A little twist happened this year.....The kid's piano teacher found out that Nathan started playing the trumpet this year for band.....so....she asked if he wanted to play it at the recital. He did fabulous! Amanda accompanied him. All I could think of was how much better he sounds now compare to when he started 2 months ago. It was adorable because after they played, they came together and held hands to bow. We are so proud of both Amanda and Nathan!! It's so tough with busy schedules to find time to practice....but they're sticking with it. Bob and I LOVE to listen to them play. They really bring their music to life.
I have to point out a typical Amanda-ism in the picture above. Notice the black bracelet on her right wrist? Well.....it's not a bracelet....it's a ponytail holder. It doesn't matter how dressed up things get....she will always have her ever faithful ponytail holder....so when she's done looking pretty.....up goes the hair and she's back in business :)
Happy 1st Birthday Toby!!
Can you even believe that we did such a thing?? What a riot!! We invited some friends (Toby's second family ... The Durrants) over for some "dog"-gone-good partying!! The Durrants watched Toby for a week in the spring for us while we went to the Ordyna Family Reunion and became just as hooked on the dog as we are. There's just something about this Toby that all of a sudden turns you into a dog lover. The Durrants even call to have Toby come over and play. The cutest thing of all was Kristen Durrant spending her hard earned money on a bone for Toby this last summer...and buying him the cutest little pillow for his birthday. So...with all this love......why not have a party!! Yes....I know...for many of you we've just solidified that we are CRAZY! :) But at least we're having fun. Oh yeah....I had to also make sure to post this event for my brother Danny who thinks my blog is a "Toby" blog.

Yes.....he even got his own cake! They actually sell these dog cakes. I just thought it was too funny to pass up. Toby LOVED it!! He dove right into it. The funny thing was that we were all gathered around the table actually watching him eat his cake. We laughed and laughed. What a good time!
Toby's party-time gang. I sure appreciate having such fun family and friends that make the most out of life. It's great to be happy and find little things to celebrate and enjoy!! Even a dog. Thanks to ALL of you.

Maybe it's just the day but, this cartoon is hilarious to me!! Anyone want to know how my days usually go.....here it is!!! I just blissfully go about my work only to discover at the end of the day that it appears I didn't get anything done.
Helping Flood Victims
On Thursday night we got a call from a few people letting us know that the bishop would like the youth to participate in a clean-up effort in the town of Vernonia, Oregon. There is a small LDS branch up there and some members really needed assistance with cleaning out the gunk, as well as taking their furniture, appliances and other belongs out for the dump. They needed their carpets and linolium ripped up and subfloors completely removed. Bob and Nathan were suppose to go on a scout campout the next day. Bob had just walked in the door from buying all the food and supplies for the campout when the calls started coming. His initial response was, "Well, we've already reserved the site and I just bought the food...so....it doesn't look like the deacons will be able to make it." When he went to pick up Nathan from trumpet lessons, he started having second thoughts. So, after discussing it a little more with me, he decided to ask the young men what they wanted to do. Nathan wanted to help at Vernonia and when he called the Deacons Quorum president, he wanted to also....so...we now have good "campout" food in our house to eat.....and instead....they packed their rainboots, rubber gloves and dust masks....and headed off to Vernonia early Sat. morning. What an experience! Nathan told me about how he walked into a bedroom and saw the walls painted with blue and there were planets on the walls and it was a really cool room. He thought of the boy who's stuff was all ruined and felt really sad for him. It was wonderful to hear my usually self-centered boy thinking so deeply about the welfare of others. I love service and truly feel sooooo bad for the people who's lives have been turned upside down. Here are some pictures of the flood and their day. Oh yeah.....Amanda wasn't able to go because of a previous comittment with school. And, I didn't get to go because I had to drive Amanda around....bummer!

Big Bad Bob! As you can see Bob is a tad bit muddy. He had a run in with the muck on the ground while he was carrying out a TV in the house. The gunk was a bit slippery and rubber boots don't tend to have very good traction.....well....YUCKY!!
Our Tree
My wonderful sister-in-law, Jamie, asked to see pictures of our "travelocity" tree. We visited them in Virginia last year. She was an eye witness to the out-of control purchasing of ornaments on our sabbatical. Let me explain......We've had a tradition since we've been married to buy (if possible) and ornament at various places we visit as a family. It's been super fun each year to get them out and say "ohhh...do you remember...." Well, on our sabbatical we took two months of traveling....basically we blew our budget on ornaments! If we were smart....we should have made an exception to the tradition! We've actually collected so many ornaments now that it is a PAIN to put them on the tree. Anyway, here's a few photos (well....actually.....A LOT) to document the Tomlinson Tree Lighting. (hope you don't get too bored)
We braved the wintery rain to find the perfect tree. Nathan still doesn't understand why it takes so long to find a tree....they all look the same! Plus, he says....we see one and then we waste all this time and then go back to the first one we saw. Bah-humbug!

Here's our first ornament (the San Francisco Trolley) and an ornament of the temple we got married in. To this day, Bob still uses a phrase that he picked up on our honeymoon from the Trolley conductor..."Back door lady, Back door" Just writing the words don't give it justice....you need to hear him do the accent. We had so much fun on our honeymoon....even though 1/2 of it was spent arguing :) Hard to believe it's been 15 years.....almost 16!...And all of it has been pure bliss! (I'm getting old....memories fading)
Here's Amanda's favorite....New York was the end of the two months for us. We had no money by then, it was record breaking heat, and we walked everywhere....but....boy did we have a BLAST! One of the kids favorite memories is going to the Today Show and to Serendipity's for frozen hot chocolate....Yes....that's an oxi-moron. (how do you spell that?)
This was just too cool of a shot to pass up. It's from Churchill Downs....Kentucky Derby. About 1/2 way through the vacation, we threw a visit to this place in at the last minute...We're glad we went! It was here that we decided we had too many ornaments to pack around anymore.....so.....we found a post office and mailed 2 boxes home....yes....full of ornaments and other souvenirs - we were wacked out! (were??? we still are!)

My Christmas village. This is one of my favorite decorations. I have to get a new thing each year. Except this year Bob wouldn't let me get one because he said there's no room. I think I'll sneak after Christmas and see what I can find at a steal-of-a-deal price and then pack it away. Next year, he won't even realize!

OK Ordyna family.....ready for a CRACK- up! I found this talk the other day. It must have been my very first talk in Sacrament meeting right after I became a Beehive. I'm posting it ...at the risk of my embarrassment for my dearest niece....Kambree. At Thanksgiving dinner I watched how wonderful she was with her younger brothers. She was so helpful and patient. I just think she's wonderful!!

Some people might think that it's hard to be a big sister to 7 dwarfs. Well it is!!
1. Into my macop (yes that is how I spelled make-up.....sorry mom!) 2. Get into my fingernail polish 3. Get into my gum & candy 4. Get into my money 5. Get into my tapes & records & just ruins them (ummm...does this date me or what!....records....what are those?) 6. Takes there dirtie sandy shoes off in my bathroom. (obvious spelling problems...I don't understand the "there" and "their" rule yet) 7. Make the sink dirty from there muddy hands. 8. Tattletales on me 9. But worst of all totally demolish my room
But, on the other hand they 1. They greet me with a nice warm smile when I come home from a boring day at school. 2. They sweetly tell me it is time to get up. 3. They sometimes help me do my work. 4. They'll sometimes stay out of my room if I tell them to. 5. They love to cuddle. 6. They're excited to learn new things. 7. They never forget about me. 8. They make my day when they come in drenched from a water fight or covered with mud from a mud fight. (Mom...you are and were a SAINT!!!) 9. It's really cute when they want to be good in church buy they just can't. 10. They sit in there bedroom about an hour after bedtime and just sit and gab and laugh. 11. But most of all just being who they are and allways being there when I need them. (ummmm....did anyone notice here that I had more things I liked about my brothers than the things that bugged me.......see how nice I was --hee-hee....okay...back to the talk)
Even though it's hard being a big sister. It's good helping to make a family -Song- (I have no idea what song I quoted here???...if I guessed from my memory it would be, "What does it take to make a family" from the play "My Turn on Earth) With all the mischif my brothers get into and for all the times they got into my room and destroyed my stuff. If only I had been more forgiving. If only I have been more patient....If only. - Say the story - (Once again....clueless about what the story is) Name of Jesus Christ, Amen
Like.....Totally a Teenager
I had to share my fun,-yet exacerbating -mothering a teenage girl moment. This last weekend we took Amanda shopping....good sales!! Well, she saw a coat that she wanted. It's a nice black one with fur around the hood....totally in!! Bob and I kept questioning her because we thought it might be a little too warm for Oregon and that she'd never wear it......lots of money.....no weary....didn't make sense. She assured us over and over that she is ALWAYS cold ALL day long and so this would be perfect for her. So, we caved and bought the coat. This morning it was quite cold....frost on the ground....so, she asked if she could wear the coat.....I said, "Sure!!" Everything went well but when I was driving her to school....I noticed she didn't have on her coat. So, I asked her if she forgot her coat. She replied while gazing out the window, "No....It was too hot". I whipped my head to look at her and said, "Are you SERIOUS!" She still didn't get it....because she innocently looked at me and said, "yeah". I then proceeded to remind her about our concern with buying the coat. She got a little testy then and said, "Well yeah, I usually am cold....for some reason though today I was hot." ....... Go figure that one out. Love my teenager! I think my mom's wish that I have a daughter just like me may just be coming true!!.....welll.....like I use to tell my mom....."Good....cause then she'll be perfect!!". And, I think Amanda IS perfect :).......love you Panda Bear!
Thankful for Thanksgiving!!
We had a super fun Thanksgiving! We went a little south to McMinnville, Oregon.....home of Danny and Holly clan. Of course we filled our bellys full of wonderful food. After dinner we headed outside for a mean game of football. It ended with Nathan getting upset and throwing the football at Danny's face.....nothing new there....argh!!! Ohhhh, how we love our competitive little boy who is still trying to control his temper. After that, we ate pumpkin pie and then the girls headed upstairs to set up Holly on a blog of her own. You need to check it out!!
I have so much to be thankful for. I am constantly amazed with how wonderful my life is!!! I absolutely love and adore my two kids and my husband - WOW!!. They mean everything to me! I also have such awesome extended family that gives constant support. And, on top of all that, I have had many friends throughout my entire life that have been inspiring and fun. I love having the gospel in my life and the opportunity to serve and be a member of Jesus Christ's church. I love being an American and having the freedoms and opportunities to fullfill my dreams. I know...I know....I may be sounding sappy.....but.....it's that time of year!! If you're reading this.....THANK YOU for being part of my life and being so wonderful!! Happy Thanksgiving......and on to a Merry Christmas and Happy New year! :) :)

TMND - Teenage Mutant Ninja DOG
I think more and more that we have an angel for a dog Toby is so patient with all of Nathan's experiments. Here's a picture of Nathan's latest Sunday activity.....dressing up Toby to be a spy. Nathan even attached a walkie-talkie. So, all afternoon, you heard Nathan's voice booming through the walkie-talkie. He even pretended that Toby was talking.....as Toby would wander over by me, I would hear, "Hi, I love you. Will you scratch my tummy?" He sent Toby on missions to find a ball, rock, etc. Unfortunately, Toby wasn't a very good spy. He would get bored with the entire thing and just lay down. He has soooooo much patience!!
Houston.....the Turtle Has Landed!
Yes, it's an exciting time around here......We are pleased to announce that the Turtle has landed! This last week it slowly floated down. It lingered about 1/2 way between the floor and ceiling for a while. It freaked out Toby for a while. He would just bark at it and run around the corner then back again to bark some more. Nathan had a great time trying to jump and touch it. So.....if you voted for 1 week.....well...give yourself a pat on the back. You can let me know in the comments if you want to brag. By the way....who voted for Julie's birthday????? Crazy cats!

The fall of the GREAT FLOATING TURTLE????
On October 12, Amanda came home with a turtle balloon (see older blog). A few days later, the turtle floated up, up and away into our living room. The ceiling in the living room is around 20 feet from the ground. We have all placed our bets as to when we think the turtle will run out of helium and fall. So far it is hanging in there.....although one fin is drooping a bit and it's getting a little more wrinkly. Any other normal family would have gotten the turtle down by now.....but....NO.....it's too much fun to watch it float around up there (plus we're just too lazy to get out the ladder) The question for you is when do YOU think the turtle will fall?? Nathan's Lego Stop Motion Video
Well...It's like I always knew.... I have an incredibly talented son!! Friday after school, Nathan and his friend decided they wanted to make a video with lego people. So, after Nate got his homework and piano done, they went into the playroom and started working. I didn't see or hear from them until 6:00pm when it was time for dinner. His friend had to go home - boo-hoo. After dinner, Nathan went back upstairs and worked until late at night. When he finally came down, Bob downloaded a SLEW of pictures. Then Nathan worked on putting them together, timed it, and put music to it. This is what turned out. Watch out Hollywood....here come's a Tomlinson!! It's AMAZING!! Enjoy! Bob and I are sitting at home...alone....passing out candy. Even Toby the dog juked us. Nathan joined a bunch of his buddies and took Toby trick or treating. Amanda is over at a guys house with a bunch of other highschoolers watching a scary movie....Disturbia. As for costumes....well...Toby the dog was the most expensive. Nathan wore his Jedi costume from last year and Amanda went with a friend to the store and bought little kid pajamas. I guess that is the craze for the "mormon" highschoolers up here. They like wearing little kids costumes that don't quite fit.---I don't quite get it....but....oh well. It totally reminds me of my favorite movie Tommy Boy...."Fat Guy in a little coat". Haaaa-Haaaa. I love that movie!! Here's some picks of our "not-so-little" kids :)
It's official.....we've gone to the dogs
The day was so nice this last Saturday. Our family decided we'd like to check out this new park we discovered the other day. So, we lovingly loaded into the van and cheerfully drove to this nice new park......A DOG PARK!!! I've never seen one of these before. What a crack up! They even had plastic fire-hydrants. One section was gated off for small dogs and then another was mixed. There was sand to dig in, little hills and tons of grass to run and get wild on. Our dog Toby was very hesitant and just went around sniffing other dog's rears - yucky! Then, when a dog would turn to play, Toby would run over by us and hide under the bench. Every once in a while he would venture out and do a mad dash around the perimeter. Our other "human" son, however, is a totally different story. He LOVED the park. He had his "groupies" that followed him around everywhere. It cracked us up because for 1 1/2 hours we sat on this bench watching Nathan run back and forth smiling and having a great ole time.....all the while a pack of dogs would be chasing after him and having just as much fun. Once in a while Nathan would lay in the grass and all these dogs would cheerfully jump all over him. Nate had a HUGE smile on his face the entire time. It ended up being one of our funnest days. We really laughed and had so much fun the entire time. Hanging out with dogs really is quite refreshing! They're funny!
The Monster Bash!!
What a great night!! All the Ordyna Oregonians gathered at Adam and Lindsey's for a haunting good time. We ate super good soup....which I stole the recipe and posted it on the blog. We also played fun games and laughed at each other....it's funny getting dressed up. We even dressed up Toby the Dog. He was Peter Pan. What a riot!!
