For a person who prefers to be in a motor home for her camping experience.....this adventure is just plain phsycotic!! But, to boys....it's fun. Nathan and Bob headed up to Mt. Hood and spent Friday night in the snow for a scout campout. There were 13 boys and 3 leaders who managed to survive the freezing temps. I had the worst night sleep because I was worrying about them and then I woke up early to turn on the news....was there a story about having to rescue a lost, idiotic scout troop who thought it would be cool to pitch tents in the snow? No....They all managed to have a blast. They loved throwing snowballs and making snowmen. Everyone was drenched and cold....but...nothing could be better!
Pounding down the snow so they could pitch their tents....Were did Nathan go?? (right) Littlest boy in troop disappears in snow!
Wow!!! Look how much work. Now I hope it doesn't rain...it will be a floating tent in the snow bowl.

I guess we will never understand boys.
That is a ton of snow, it sure looks like they are having fun. Great digging, Nate looks like he will be very safe in his tent.
Next time the boys want to go camping in the freezing cold snow, we need to party girls-night-out-style! Glad they survived and had fun!
Thanks for sharing the pictures! Now I understand what they meant when they said that they put their tents in a snow cave! It is more of a snow bowl, like you said. What an adventure! We had fun catching up with the scouts on the sled hill--if only for a little while! I love your blog background! Very beautiful! Tell Toby hello for me--I took a continuing education class on cleaning dog/cat teeth. Make sure he gets that done at his "well dog" appointment too!
Wow! Hunter thinks that is "so cool!" I'm thinking he's right--so cool, meaning so freezing! Way to go scouters!
BRRRRRRRR!!! One brave soul to take those boys to do snow camping. Paul wants to go....like never. He is so glad Nathan likes scouts. He loved scouts and is sad he can't do the backpacking anymore and has to work now.
So glad everyone had fun. As we say in scouting, "Never take the Outing out of Scouting!"
You can tell the Scout Master came from Southern California. No wonder you froze...you can't camp in tents in the snow. You have to sleep in a snow cave.
Nathan, ask your uncles to take you back up there and teach you how to make a snow cave. Take along a candle so your cave will be toasty warm during the night.
