The downside of bunkbeds

WARNING.....this is gross!!

Bunkbeds are very convenient for saving space, climbing adventures, etc....but at 1:00am, I discovered a HUGE downside to bunkbeds.....

If the person sleeping on the top leans over the side and vomits......the vomit hits the floor with such force that it splatters on all sides of the room. If there is any item on the floor, it will splatter on it, if there is any room under dressers or desks...it will splatter through the space.

Oh my goodness!! It took me an hour to clean! And....to make things worse, Bob was gone and I was cleaning, gagging and crying about being alone. What a bummer!

Just wanted to share a consumer warning for anyone so adventurous as to get bunkbeds....be careful...and....most important.....make sure that your kids put away their legos each night....to save you from the possible adventure of going through each lego in order to clean it.....almost threw the entire box away!!!!!!!! :)

I am so sorry that you guys are sick! We have experienced way too many stories with bunkbeds all too similar to yours and more. Our beds are now on opposite sides of the room and in an almost empty room. Only closed containers allowed under the beds, too. I hope the boys are all feeling better soon. We had some serious sickness this week.

Oh that's bad! Way bad! I'm so sorry! I love how you were gagging while cleaning it up! Not that I love your misery--I love it cause I relate perfectly! I totally do that! Even my kids do that to one another! Oh, the horribleness (is that a word?) of it all--hopefully with time it will be a memory that evokes much laughter!

Now you can use the line "Only a mother who LOVED you would have cleaned this up." or revised to "Ony a most DEVOTED and LOVING wife would have cleaned this up and not waited for you to come home and do it!" Time to soak it for all it's worth baby!!

Odd... we had vomitting last week too, but I got out of cleaning it up by not being present... tee hee.

Oh Julie that is HORRIBLE!!! I am sorry you guys have been sick, and, considering we own some of the cursed bunk beds, I am taking notes of your suggestions. :)

ps - love your fall background!

Pretty gross. Gilbert has told me this happened to him and his brothers several times growing up. They had triple decker bunk beds!

Thanks for the warning. Although, I am so sorry you had to experience this first hand. It is much easier to read about it. I hope the sickie gets better.

We have discussed purchasing (when the time comes) a toddler bunk-bed....I'll keep that in mind!

So gross! I feel so bad for you!! If there's one thing that I've NEVER appreciated about motherhood, it is cleaning up vomit! And your case sounds like the worst-case-scenario! I guess it's Murphy's law huh?! It would be the child on the TOP bunk...there would be legos on the floor...and Bob would have to be out of town! I feel for you Julie...I hope you've recovered!

Thank you everyone for your kind "pity" - Ha! I am pleased to announce that I have recovered from it (although not to the laughing part quite yet)and luckily it was a one timer....but it definitely was a doozy of a one timer. I hope the broken arm doesn't come next...thanks for jinxin me,debi! (how do you spell jinx?)

Oh yeah...I've never heard of a triple decker bunk bed...only Gilbert would have one of those - ha!! That would have been HILARIOUS to see!!
