The swine that "flu" just landed on ME!! Yep, I have been layed out flat on my bed since Wednesday night! I've had a fever of 104 degrees and a head that felt like it was being smooshed by the pig itself!!! Please piggy....go away!!
Finally the doctor advised me to go to urgent care and that was such a fun experience. Of course, right away, I had to put on a mask. Have you ever tried breathing in that thing when you have a fever? Forget the flu....I was going to drown from the condensation from my hot breath...what a way to die! The doctor came and looked at me....almost reached out to shake my hand but caught himself and just said "hello". He then turned to Bob (my ambulance driver) to shake his hand and say hello....my hand is off limits of course. As he examines me, my stomach starts to get queezy and I think, oh no....what if I vomit into this mask. Wouldn't that just be the most disgusting thing EVER!! For sure then just kill me and put me out of my misery!! Yet, in the end, I avoid the disaster and the doc sympathetically nods and says, well, I'm pretty sure you have the H1N1 flu and you should stay home for at least 7 days. WHAT...7 days! He wouldn't give me any prescription because I didn't meet the "at risk" category and I was already two days into it. So here I sit...barely able to hold my head up...but bored out of my wits. So, since I'm pretty sure the swine doesn't fly through the computer, I am sharing my sad, sad, sad story. And if no one really cares...well...then I'll hopefully read this in a couple of weeks and feel pretty dang good about my healthy state of just being over-worked and tired.....with the added title of
SWINE SURVIVOR!!!
One other side note of learning....my husband truly LOVES me. He's been taking off work and taking such good care of me. Right now he's in there chopping vegetables and making chicken noodle soup. My kids on the other hand want nothing to do with me. Amanda won't even hold Toby the dog because she says he was by me. If I enter the room, they clear out. We'll see who the smart ones are I guess. But, I'll go for the love right now. Then I'll help the "love" out when I'm better and he's sick. Thanks BOB!
Secondary addition....My dear, sweet sister-in-law, Kristin, read this post and reminded me that Bob took a picture of me in the doctor's office. Warning: there are some small side-effects from this type of flu. How did the doctor know what I had???
Nice one Kristin....thanks for the laugh. I needed it!!!

I'm so so sorry you are sick with H1N1 - unbelievable!!! Would you like me to send you a positive preg test so you can get the meds??? I will overnight it!!! Nice Bob is a great husband...that means so much!!!
That stinks. With all the buzz about how bad it is I am surprised that you sound so...okay with it. Every lecture I get around here about H1N1 us don't get it or you and your family are gonners. Are we just crazy here in Corvallis?
Hope you feel better soon. It's never fun being sick...even if it does mean you get to relax for awhile. It's not quite relaxing when you feel like crud!
Uhh...Angie...would have LOVED the positive pregnancy test about 10 years ago...now...I think I'll take the flu...ha!!
And Stephanie...It's BAD and believe me, you'll feel like a gonner!! I seriously have never been so sick...well, my last strep throat was pretty bad. But, seriously though they say that the H1N1 is in 98% of the flu this season. They don't take blood tests anymore and are just letting it naturally run it's course. I walk around with my bottle of lysol wipes and everything I touch, I wipe so no one else will get this horrible thing. But, it's not deadly...yet :)
Julie,
I know I shouldn't be...but I am totally laughing. Your story telling cracks me up. I am rolling over your mask and almost throwing up! What an experience. Bob is so angelic. I'm sure he will be granted perfect health for his act of love. I will laugh when Amanda gets it...sorry Amanda, it always seems to fall on the one who is most careful.
Ok, let me give my sympathy. Swine flu! I can't believe it. How miserable. Your poor students will miss you so much this week. There is nothing fun about being sick. Get better soon!
I hope you feel better REALLY soon. I am so sorry. It must be nasty... never before have I gotten so many letters sent home from school about an illness.
So sorry to hear about it. But that picture is truly revolting. Yuck!
I hear your appearance goes back to normal after you recover! HA!
Oh my goodness Julie, I'm so sorry! How scary too! I must say I hope you soon return to your beautiful, "swine" free, self! I'm so glad Bob is taking care of you--what a sweet hubbie!
I meant to have the positive test so you can get the vaccine. My Dr even asked me if I would like it next month...interesting I'm offered it because I'm pregnant but someone who has it can't get it??? Makes no sense. Oh, and Rick got a kick out of the pics about your post - just to funny!!! Love you sense of humor!!!
That sounds no fun!! I hope you feel better really soon!!!! At least you're smiling in the picture and trying to make the best of it.. lol. Hey, now would be a good time to get some reading in... you should read the "Great and Terrible" series... I'll lend you the first volume if ya want. :)
Unfortunately, Nick and I literally FEEL for you! We too have had the disease these past four days and it is NO FUN! Saturating sweats...freezing cold chills...serious body pains...unbelievable pressure headaches...loss of appetite...did I forget anything?!?!
I am so sorry to hear you've been sick. Too bad we don't live closer...we could have at least watched movies all day together!
Oh...and just to scare Bob a bit...Nick took such good care of me on my 1st day of suffering, only to fall ill the very next day! So much for being compassionate, huh!
Julie-
I am SO sorry that you have swine flu.....BUT........I am feeling a bit grateful that we didn't meet for lunch last Wednesday! haha!! Let me know when you are better so we can try again!
That stinks! Are you still feeling that old adage that you'd rather be sick than watch your kids go through it? That picture is hilarious.
Thank you everyone for your support through my misery!!! I am happy to say that I SURVIVED THE SWINE!! I need a t-shirt now! :)
Ooh, poor Julie!! I hope you're doing better and hope nobody else in the fam has gotten- especially w/ a couple birthdays this month- yuck!
There does seem to be a lot of panick about this flu and really I HOPE I don't get it, but I feel so much less panicked having known so many "survivors." Fight on!
I am so sorry. I hate the 24 hour flu, so I'd be a gonner for sure if I had to endure swine! You for sure need a t-shirt....that picture is hilarious!
I remember getting sick when each of my babies were newborns. You always help out with the other kids, I wish I would've known so I could've helped you in some way!
